Qatar’s promising swimmer Abdulaziz al-Obaidly is geared up to make his debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The 19-year-old will be in action today in the men’s 200m breaststroke heats at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.
By participating at the Tokyo Games and competing against top swimmer, al-Obaidly will have an opportunity to develop his swimming skills and come back home with greater experience. “I will do my best and fight tooth and nail to improve my personal record and gain further experience in swimming, the Qatari youngster said yesterday.
Qatar’s Deputy Chef De Mission Ahmed al-Darweesh said: “Everything is going well, we are working together in full cooperation, we are doing our best to take up Qatar’s sport movement to new heights”.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s athletes are all set to begin their campaign in athletics event from July 30. Qatar’s track and field stars, including World high jump champion Mutaz Barshim, have been training in Takasaki, near Tokyo for the last one week. Barshim will be in action on July 30. Femi Ogunode will participate in men’s 100m and 200m respectively, Ashraf El Saifi will compete in the men’s hammer throw and Abubaker Hayder will take part in men’s 800m while Musab Adam and Abdulrhaman Saieed will compete in 1,500m. Abdulrahman Samba will take part in men’s 400m hurdles and Bashayer al-Mnawari will be first Qatari female to hit the track in 100m.
