Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has shared health tips to be followed during the Eid al-Adha holidays.
"Individuals with diabetes and heart problems are urged to avoid overconsumption of refined carbohydrates and fatty foods, as well as foods that are high in salt," HMC said in an advisory on social media.
"Avoid overconsumption of sweets and traditional foods. It is important to make healthy food choices and to eat a balanced diet during Eid, especially for those with existing health conditions," it added. "Include healthy food choices in your main meals and snacks, such as fruits, vegetables and legumes.
"Make healthier choices when preparing meals by using smaller portions of fat or replacing fat with olive oil. Follow healthy food cooking and storage practices to maintain food safety."
On its part, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), too, has stressed the importance of having healthy eating habits during the summer months and Eid.
"Let's replace Eid sweets with fruits and dates," PHCC said on social media. "The Eid holiday is a good opportunity to engage in sports activities."
On the importance of eating fruit and vegetables during the summer, the corporation cited the example of strawberries and said: "Strawberries contain 90% water, have high nutritional value, have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, and strengthen the body's immune system."
