Almoez Ali, the star striker of the Qatar national team and the top scorer of the 2019 Asian Cup wrote his name in the annals of history in golden letters after scoring a goal against Panama on Tuesday. Qatar posted a 3-3 draw in their opening Concacaf Gold Cup clash as Almoez archived his name in football history. The Al Duhail striker has become the first player in football history to score goals in three different continental championships after scoring against Panama in the opening match of Group D of the Gold Cup.
Almoez was the top scorer of the 2019 Asian Cup with nine goals, a record in the Asian championship, surpassing Ali Daei, the Iranian legend and top scorer of the 1996 Asian Cup. The second achievement of the Al Duhail striker, who has played 70 international matches and scored 30 goals for Qatar team, is scoring during a Copa America match against Paraguay in 2019.
Qatar’s maiden participation in Gold Cup is another step in the team’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, where the Asian champions continue to face competitors from all over the world after featuring in the Copa America in its previous edition, before appearing in the European qualifiers for the World Cup.
