Doha-based Rajath Raj Rameshan, a trainee at New Vision Badminton Sport (NVBS), has been selected to undergo a one-month training camp at the prestigious Pullela Gopichand Acdemy in India, NVBS officials said.
A grade X student at DPS Modern Indian School, Doha, Rajath will get a permanent slot at the academy if he impresses the management there during his one-month stay in the Indian city of Hyderabad.
“I am excited to get this chance to train at the Gopichand Academy. I will give my best during my stay at the academy and it will be a great experience to train under some of the great coaches who have trained so many badminton legends of India,” said Rajath, who started as an 11-year old with NVBS under chief coach and managing director Manoj Sahibjan.
Rajath’s selection to train at the Gopichand Academy is a feather in the cap for NVBS, Sahibjan said.
"I am surprised and also excited to hear the news that for the first time a player from Doha, Qatar, has been selected for a month-long training-cum-selection trial at the Gopichand Academy,” the NVBS chief coach said.
“I am really happy and proud of my student. It is not just a selection but also a great achievement for him as well as for my coaching career,” added Sahibjan.
He praised Rajath for being focused both on and off the field.
Rajath has been practising for the last four years under Sahibjan at NVBS. For the last three months, he has been undergoing intense training under head coach Afsal O K and assistant coaches Ashif Ameerjan and Adarsh M S.
“He has been hard working from Day 1 and used to do his training truthfully and displayed great court attitude and discipline,” said Afsal.
“The management and coaches at NVBS wish him a bright future in his badminton career,” added Afsal, while thanking Gopichand for giving such an opportunity to Rajath to take his talent to the next level.
