A blood donation campaign was recently organised at the premises of Bangladesh Embassy in Qatar from 10am to 4pm at the initiative of the embassy and the Bangladesh Community Qatar (BCQ) in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
Md. Jashim Uddin ndc, ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar, and Dr Ayesha al-Malki, Assistant Executive Director of HMC Blood Transfusion Service, inaugurated the campaign in the morning. Among others present on the occasion were: DLMP Vice-Chair Dr Javed Akhtar, DLMP Senior Consultant and Head of the Department Dr Jalauddin Bhuiyan, DLMP Donor Service Manager Dr Sadika Ismail Abbas, BCQ President Anwar Hossain Akon and the embassy officials.
The ambassador thanked the team of HMC for their co-operation in organising the blood donation campaign and commended the blood donors for their participation. The ambassador said that the embassy would look forward to organising such programs regularly in future with the support from the community.
During a short meeting with Dr Ayesha al-Malki, the ambassador said that Bangladeshi diaspora in Qatar was considerably large and he underlined the need for introduction of Bangla language, alongside other languages, to effectively transmit health related messages to the expatriate workers. He added that a booklet in Bangla on basic health issues and the regular health awareness programmes for the community would be useful. He offered full cooperation from the embassy to publish a booklet in Bangla language and organise awareness programs for the community.
The ambassador also appreciated the frontline workers for their commendable jobs to contain the Covid-19.
Dr Ayesha al-Malki thanked the embassy and BCQ for organising the blood donation campaign. He assured all possible cooperation in publishing a booklet in Bangla language on basic health issues, telephone services in Bangla and organizing health awareness programmes for the community.
Many from the community served as volunteers during the blood donation campaign. The prominent among them were; freedom fighter Omar Farooq Chowdhury, BCQ general secretary Amin Rasul Saiful and Aminul Islam. Many community leaders encouraged the donors by being present at the campaign.
