Applying all necessary Covid precautionary measures, the Bangladesh Badminton Society Qatar (BBSQ) recently organised a tournament in the open doubles category with the participation of 16 teams at Cambridge School, Al Mamura, as part of the monthly badminton competition.
There were no spectators and only players with two doses of the Covid vaccine took part in the match.
The match was inaugurated by Mahbur Rahman, counselor (political and economy), Bangladesh embassy, Anwar Hossain Akon, president, Bangladesh Community Qatar, and eminent businessman Matin Patwari.
The competition was conducted by Aminul Islam, BBSQ senior vice president, and Ashfaquddin Mamun, general secretary.
Freedom fighter Omar Farooq Chowdhury, eminent columnist Nur Mohamed, Ruhel Kabir, and Joynal Abedin were present as guests at the closing and award distribution ceremony that was presided over by Alamgir Hossain Ali, president, BBSQ.
Rahmatullah Fariyaz and Md Yusuf (Babu) emerged champions with Ashfaquddin Mamun and Md Nazim Uddin as runners-up.
The winning team donated all their match money for the treatment of Gazi Nur Alam Tushar, a national badminton player who is suffering from injuries in Bangladesh.
