The managing director of the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), Dr Mariam Alabdulmalik, said PHCC's medical laboratories had obtained international accreditation. This which reflects the expertise and excellence of patient care procedures, and indicates the adoption of the highest standards of quality and safety levels in all laboratories and providing the most accurate results in line with international standards, the managing director added.
The 27 PHCC laboratories obtained the accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) after completing comprehensive inspection programmes. These were conducted in April as part of the accreditation programme.
In a virtual ceremony, the PHCC honoured the directors of the health centres, district directors, and all workers in health centres' laboratories on the occasion of obtaining accreditation.
Executive director of operations at PHCC, Dr Samya Ahmad al-Abdulla, stressed that PHCC's success in obtaining accreditation is the fruits of the efforts made and the harmony of the distinguished teamwork demonstrated by the employees during the Covid-19 pandemic and their full commitment to best practices.
In her speech during the virtual ceremony, Dr al-Abdulla added that this milestone would not have been achieved without the hard work and commitment shown by medical laboratories at all centres. She pointing out that the accreditation is considered one of the highest quality certificates globally in the field of medical laboratories.
Obtaining accreditation requires passing rigorous tests in applying quality control practices, examining the qualifications of employees and technicians, equipment, facilities, occupational safety programmes, record keeping, and the general and comprehensive management process of the laboratory.
By obtaining international accreditation, PHCC laboratories had become the largest network of laboratories in the world accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) outside the US and one of the largest groups of primary healthcare laboratories in the public sector.
