* ARABOSAI and ESCWA sign MoU for co-operation and exchange of knowledge
HE President of the State Audit Bureau and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Arab Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI), Sheikh Bandar bin Mohamed bin Saud al-Thani, inaugurated Monday the 62nd meeting of the Executive Council of the Arab Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI), hosted by the State Audit Bureau over two days, with the participation of the heads of the Supreme Audit institutions of the member states of the organisation.
In his speech on this occasion, HE Sheikh Bandar affirmed that the march of the Arab organisation, which has been going on for more than 40 years, has witnessed many achievements, as its work mechanisms have developed and its activities expanded for the benefit of member organs, and its position has been established at the international level as a leading organisation working to raise the value of supreme audit institutions and enhance its professionalism in various areas of audit work.
He pointed out, however, that despite the feeling of pride in what has been achieved, the road is still long and there remains work to be done to raise the pace of implementation of development plans and programmes in the organisation and stimulate innovation and renewal in its work.
HE Sheikh Bandar explained that the State Audit Bureau in Qatar, and within the framework of its keenness to develop the work of the Arab organisation, improve its performance and ensure the achievement of its ambitious goals in serving the member organs, has prepared an integrated package of development initiatives for the benefit of the organisation in various fields related to its work, which aims to improve the performance of the organisation and enhance its capabilities, and its implementation will start once approved by the Executive Council during this meeting.
He also expressed appreciation for the efforts made by the heads and members of the committees emanating from the organisation in order to carry out the responsibilities entrusted to them, and called for them to be a source of a proposal for innovative initiatives that raise the capabilities of the organisation and enhance its performance.
HE Sheikh Bandar expressed his satisfaction with the development witnessed by the co-ordination of co-operation between the organisation and the relevant international parties, stating that in the context of continuing the approach adopted by the organisation regarding expanding the scope of professional partnerships with relevant parties, the Executive Council will consider, during this meeting, a proposal regarding signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Arab League's Educational, Cultural and Scientific organisation (Alecso), which will allow benefiting from the experience of this prestigious organisation in implementing the programs of the Arab organisation related to sustainable development goals within the fields of education, culture and science.
The 62nd meeting of the Executive Council of the Arab organisation discussed many important topics on the agenda, including the report of the chairman of the Executive Council on his activity and that of the council since its 61st meeting and the proposal of the chairman on development initiatives for the benefit of the organisation.
In addition to the reports of the General Secretariat and sub-committees of the organisation, and the reports of the bodies will also be presented for its participation in the work of the committees and working groups emanating from the International organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), as well as the adoption of the final budget for 2020, and the estimated budget for 2021.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the ARABOSAI and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) signed a memorandum of understanding for co-operation and exchange of knowledge and experiences between the two parties in support of joint efforts aimed at achieving sustainable development goals.
The memorandum was signed on behalf of the Arab organisation by HE Sheikh Bandar, and on behalf of the ESCWA by Rola Dashti, the UN under-secretary-general and ESCWA executive secretary.
On the occasion, HE Sheikh Bandar stressed the importance of the memorandum of understanding and its role in enhancing the efforts of the ARABOSAI in achieving sustainable development goals in the Arab world, and expressed confidence that the implementation of the joint work plan stipulated in the memorandum will give impetus towards enhancing the professional capabilities of the Arab monitoring bodies.
