Doha College has honoured 206 of its Secondary students at its annual Awards Ceremony.
Carried out online for the second year running due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the ceremony recognised excellence and commitment to learning, shown by students from Year 7 through to Year 13. The awards were given for every subject in each year group, as well as a tutor’s award in each form group.
Three Doha College students, namely Vibhav Agrawal, Nina Nair and Razan Elshazali, were internationally recognised by the Council of British International Schools (Cobis) Student Achievement Awards for outstanding individual achievements or contributions to an aspect of school or community life.
Vibhav teaches mathematics virtually to lesser privileged children who live in rural areas and remote villages in India through a local NGO. Nina contributed to whole school wellbeing by setting up the Wellbeing Committee.
Razan created an inspirational Instagram account and NGO called Women of Sudan.
Doha College also recognised the contribution of the students who organised the Model United Nations events during the year, as well as the senior post holders, affectionately known as the 'Big 6' – the head boy, head girl, their two deputies and the two senior prefects.
Kept as un utmost secret until the festive evening, the title of Outstanding Student went to Ailsa Cameron, who achieved the highest academic results and was involved in every aspect of school life – a true leader that will be a wonderful ambassador for Doha College when she goes on to university in the UK this September.
Many students were awarded multiple trophies, with Ahmed Aldeeb (Year 8) and Arwa Elrayess (Year 10) receiving a record five each, in subjects as diverse as Computer Science, History, Languages and Music.
Doha College principal Dr Steffen Sommer shared his thoughts on the occasion: “Never has so much been achieved in more adverse circumstances. DC students have excelled beyond all expectation every step of the way. They are all poised to do well going forward.”
