Qatar attends opening of Egypt's naval base

Qatar participated Saturday in the inauguration ceremony of the Egyptian "July 3 Naval Base" in Gargoub area on the northwest coast of Egypt.

Commander of the Amiri Naval Forces Major General Abdullah bin Hassan al-Sulaiti represented Qatar in the inauguration ceremony. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi opened the strategic naval base on the Mediterranean Sea to "secure shipping lines", the presidency said.

The base lies some 255km west of Alexandria, towards the border with Libya.
