North Indian Association (NIA) recently presented an online yoga and health workshop for three weeks starting June 1 and culminating on International Day of Yoga on June 21.
The workshop was an initiative under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: India@75’ celebrations in Qatar.
More than 100 participants attended the workshop on a virtual platform. It was an all-round health workshop consisting of yoga exercises, pranayama (breathing exercises), acupressure, tips from nutritionists and advice from doctors.
The inauguration was addressed by Dr Alpna Mittal, wife of the Indian ambassador to Qatar, who graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The workshop was conceptualised by Dr Lokesh Bhatia with the objective of helping people develop a regular routine to improve their physical and psychological immunity. Dr Bhatia is an orthopedic surgeon in Doha and NIA head of sub-committee – Community Events Support.
Girijesh Srivastava and Shalini Tiwari conducted yoga, meditation, and pranayama training sessions for six days. They are experienced, certified, professionally trained and widely acclaimed yoga trainers.
Interactive sessions were organised every Saturday.
In two of the sessions, Dr Bharat Rawat, internationally acclaimed cardiologist and lifestyle coach, spoke on heart care and lifestyle. Dietician Dr Karishma Desai gave insights on diet and weight loss.
Dr Pravin Dani, consultant physician, addressed the audience on diabetes, hypertension and Covid-19 while consultant pediatrician Dr Sangeeta Joshi spoke on child care and precautions to be taken against the impending third wave of the pandemic.
Educational talks on musculoskeletal issues, psychological immunity and meditation were imparted by Dr Lokesh Bhatia along with Dr Rakesh Gupta.
Monika Modi, NIA secretary, membership, conducted a raffle draw every Friday. NIA gave prizes to draw winners to honour their participation. Prizes at the event were sponsored by Al Muftah Group, Homes R Us, and Sayali’s Cookies.
On the concluding day, Shalini Tiwari along with her team members – Preshya Girish, Anita Dutta, Suman Aggarwal and Priya Bhedi performed a musical yoga. Harish Kanjani, NIA founder chairman, appreciated the efforts of the team. NIA president Rajneesh Shastri expressed his gratitude to all those who joined the workshop and Durgesh Gupta, chairman, advisory committee; Priya Bhedi, vice president; Sandeep Kumar Arya, general secretary; Moksha Gupta, joint cultural secretary; Jyoti Wadhwani, secretary sponsorship; and Lalit Pandey, treasurer; along with other management committee members who were involved in making the event a success.
