The Cabinet has approved a draft decree defining the electoral districts of the Shura Council and their respective regions, as well as draft decisions of HE the Minister of Interior regarding key aspects of the council's elections.
The draft decisions pertain to nominating the head and members of the election committees for the Shura Council elections; forming a nominees' committee and its work system and controls; forming a voters' committee and its system and controls; and determining the sources of financing and spending for election campaigns and the controls and procedures for controlling it, Qatar News Agency reported.
This came at the Cabinet's regular meeting chaired by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani at the Amiri Diwan yesterday.
Following the meeting, HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie issued a statement giving the details of the proceedings.
The Cabinet took the necessary measures to issue two draft laws after reviewing the recommendations of the Shura Council : a draft law to issue the Shura Council election system law, and a draft law on the Shura Council.
The meeting approved a draft decision of HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment on the executive regulations for Law No 24 of 2006 promulgating the Law (Regulation) on Agricultural Fertilisers and Soil Conditioners in GCC Countries. It also gave its nod to a draft decision of HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment regarding the types of fertilisers and agricultural soil conditioners allowed, their specifications, conditions and procedures for their use and circulation.
Further, the Cabinet approved a proposal to renew the term of membership of the committee to co-ordinate search and rescue mechanisms in civil aviation.
The Cabinet then took the necessary measures to ratify an agreement on the promotion and protection of mutual investments between the governments of Qatar and Equatorial Guinea; and an economic, commercial and technical co-operation agreement between the governments of Qatar and Equatorial Guinea.
It also approved a draft memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs in Qatar and the Presidency of Religious Affairs in Turkey for co-operation in the field of endowments and Islamic affairs; as well as a draft friendship and co-operation agreement between Doha Municipality in Qatar and Municipality of Lima in Peru.
The Cabinet reviewed the annual report for 2019/2020 of the Standing Committee for rescue and relief work and humanitarian assistance in the affected areas of sisterly and friendly countries and took the appropriate decision in this regard.

 
Covid measures to continue

The Cabinet Wednesday listened to the explanation given by HE the Minister of Public Health on the latest developments regarding the steps taken to curb the spread of Covid-19. Accordingly, the Cabinet stressed the continuation of the precautionary measures that have been taken in the country to face the pandemic, QNA reported.
