Qatar Airways has carried more than 380,000 seafarers and offshore workers since April last year, the airline has said.

"During the pandemic to keep the maritime industry moving, we've safely carried more than 380,000 seafarers and offshore workers since April 2020," Qatar Airways tweeted on the occasion of Day of the Seafarer, observed on June 25 each year.

The Mariner Lounge, which the airline had opened at Hamad International Airport to enable seafarers and offshore worker passengers to relax and enjoy refreshments while waiting for their onward flight, reached a milestone on Day of the Seafarer, welcoming its 50,000th guest since opening in late-2020.

Day of the Seafarer is observed on June 25 each year.

The occasion was marked by Qatar Airways Group chief executive HE Akbar al-Baker in the presence of other officials.

As a special "thank you" to seafarers worldwide, the Mariner Lounge guests received a special Bric's amenity kit on the occasion of Day of the Seafarer.

"The international shipping industry is the lifeblood of the world economy, and we're truly proud to keep the world moving by supporting seafarers during their journey," the airline tweeted. "We've operated more than 100 charter flights to carry around 28,000 mariners. We invite all seafarers and mariners worldwide to experience the Mariner Lounge when travelling with Qatar Airways."
