Qatar Charity (QC) has stressed, on the occasion of World Refugee Day, that it provides health and educational projects for refugees.
"Nearly 80mn people in the world have been forced to leave their homes to become refugees or internally-displaced persons (IDPs) and even more so, 10mn of these people have fled in the last year alone," the QC said in a statement.
"This year's World Refugee Day focuses on the power of inclusion and action under the official slogan *Together We Heal, Learn and Shine, as the coronavirus (Covid-19) experience has shown the world that we can only take a step towards success if everyone stands together," the statement noted. "Qatar Charity is one of the most prominent humanitarian organisations to have worked to confront this pandemic worldwide, whether at the health level or to provide an appropriate education for refugees in these exceptional circumstances the world is going through."
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced that Qatar Charity had contributed QR3.65mn as part of its campaign during Ramadan to support refugees in Jordan and Lebanon and the displaced inside Yemen.
As part of the urgent response to the coronavirus outbreak, the QC established 14 community isolation units in northern Syria at an estimated cost of $1.6mn, benefiting about 3,000 camp residents, in co-operation with the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
The QC provided emergency assistance to Syrian refugees in co-operation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The value of this agreement amounted to $1.5mn.
Qatar Charity and the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) also signed two agreements worth $2mn to provide water, sanitation and hygiene services to Syrian refugees in Jordan.
The QC’s interventions in favour of refugees in the face of the pandemic were not limited to the health aspect; they included the education sector.
In 2021, the QC signed two protocols for co-operation with the Turkish state of Orfa in health and education to improve the living conditions of Syrian refugees there.
Qatar Charity will operate an integrated health centre inside Syria and an educational complex equivalent to three schools.
The total beneficiaries of the QC’s educational projects for Syrian refugees reached more than 1.2mn children over the past five years.
It also provided the camps with 40 educational spaces in the form of caravans equipped with school chairs, air-conditioners, whiteboards, fireplaces and fire extinguishers.
Some 2,500 children benefited from this project.
Qatar Charity has joined several international educational initiatives to support educational projects during crises, especially with the Qatar Fund for Development, which sponsors the Quest Initiative, a Qatari initiative that seeks to provide education and training for about 400,000 Syrian refugees inside Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Turkey.
The total amount of this initiative exceeds $100mn.
