* New Board of Trustees meets to secure Qatar Museums' contribution to QNV 2030

HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani has chaired the first meeting of a new Board of Trustees for Qatar Museums (QM).
HE Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali, Minister of Culture and Sports, and HE Akbar al-Baker, Group chief executive of Qatar Airways and secretary-general of Qatar National Tourism Council, also attended the meeting, together with the newly appointed presidents of QM’s museums.
The Board of Trustees will support QM's efforts to protect and manage Qatar’s cultural heritage, ensuring Qatar’s global position as an institution recognised for supporting the local creative economy and showcasing creative talent from the region and the world, Qatar Museums has said in a statement.
HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa said, “Our trustees will be an integral part of Qatar Museums' plans to expand our local programming offer. We are already a world-class institution, and the Board will support our efforts to expand cultural diplomacy, promote Qatar’s heritage and support an expanded space for creative and design that will provide a tangible impact on Qatar’s economic diversification."
The Board of Trustees will align with the ambitions of Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030) by working to support the development of legislation that extends QM's role in the protection, management and promotion of cultural heritage. The Board will be crucial to Qatar Museums' efforts to support Qatar’s recovery from the global pandemic and in ensuring better co-ordination with national entities to expand and promote Qatar’s cultural tourism offer to international visitors.
An immediate focus for the Board will be overseeing QM's programming for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Newly appointed trustee, Hassan al-Thawadi, secretary-general of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, said: “I am delighted to join the Qatar Museums Board of Trustees ahead of the FIFA World Cup. When Qatar bid to host the World Cup, part of our proposal was to showcase Qatar to the world and our cultural heritage and the institutions that represent it will play a key part in the delivery of this objective."
HE the Assistant Foreign Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Board of Trustee member Lolwah bint Rashid AlKhater said, “Our museums and their programmes showcase Qatar’s culture to the world. I look forward to supporting Qatar Museums in their efforts to continue to tell Qatar’s story both in Qatar and to the world."
The Board of Trustees forms another programme of support in QM's contribution to nation-building and delivering Qatar National Vision 2030. "Qatar Museums continues to transform Qatar’s cultural landscape contributing to social development and community dialogue in a multinational society," the statement added.
