Counselling Department at Birla Public School (BPS) recently organised Indian School Counsellors Symposium for school counsellors. Principal A P Sharma addressed the gathering and spoke about the importance of counselling as a profession and its significance in the current situation.
The principal also touched on the school counsellors’ role they play in the school system by providing support to children. Guest speakers were – Vaishali Ghosh and Ritu Shah. Vaishali, a Mumbai based counsellor, trainer and clinical supervisor, discussed the importance of counsellor self-care and how it can impact the work they do. Ritu Shah, a Yoga instructor, shared some yoga techniques that counsellors can practice to improve mental wellbeing and reduce stress.
The session also had counsellors discussions on the challenges faced during the pandemic and how it had impacted the work they do. The symposium helped counsellors of Indian schools in Qatar get to know each other and offered an opportunity to for them to share knowledge, network and know the best practices that can ultimately help them reach out to students more effectively.
