The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has won yet another international recognition for its commitment to workers’ safety. Ashghal’s East Al-Wajba Project (Package 1) has won the Best in Country Award from British Safety Council in appreciation of its efforts in reducing the risk of injuries and accidents in 2020.
According to an official Tweet, Ashghal was selected from 32 other organisations out of 292 nominated for the award from Europe, Africa, Asia, India and the Middle East.
Last year, Ashghal announced the commencement of the Roads and Infrastructure Project in Al-Wajba East (Package 1) as part of its plan to provide an integrated infrastructure and an advanced roads network throughout the country.
The project, located in the East Al-Wajba area, west of Umm Al-Dome Street and north of Rawdat Al-Naser Street, aims to provide a network of internal streets in the area and raise the level of safety on it, in addition to creating an integrated infrastructure to respond to the requirements of the population and urban growth in the future.
The project has been divided into three geographical areas, which will be implemented in succession, and each phase will take one year to complete. The project works are scheduled to be completed in Q2 of 2023.
The project serves 368 citizens sub-divisions in Al-Wajba East, and includes implementing a 17 km road network to enhance the traffic flow and provide the connection with the future public facilities in the area. This is in addition to providing traffic safety elements, such as street lighting systems and poles, signboards and road marking. The project will also provide 34 km of shared pedestrian and cycle paths and 2570 parking bays.
The infrastructure works in the project include a 14km sewage network, a 16.6km surface and groundwater drainage network, a 10.7km treated water network, in addition to extending potable water pipes and connecting them to the main drinking water network.
