The greatest celebration of Arab football takes place later this year and the residents of Qatar will have a golden opportunity to be part of it. The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) is seeking volunteers for the inaugural FIFA Arab Cup 2021, which will take place from November 30 to December 18.
In an interaction with the media on Tuesday, Volunteer Strategy Manager of SC Nasser al-Mogaiseeb said the volunteering programme has been a huge success so far and encouraged the residents of Qatar to become volunteers.
“Volunteer programme was established in 2018 with two main targets. The short target was to prepare volunteers for the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar, which will be held next year. The other goal is to prepare and build the capability of the volunteers so that they can serve some other events too,” al-Mogaiseeb said.
“We already have more than 372,000 volunteers from 165 different nationalities, who have registered from the programme,” he added.
People aged 18 and above can apply to become a volunteer at https://volunteer.fifa.com/invite/FAC2021. Those selected will support a range of operations, including spectator services, hospitality, broadcasting and media, among others. Volunteers will receive full training, tournament accreditation and a branded uniform. During their shifts, they will be entitled to a meal and use of public transport.
Volunteers must be fluent in English, with fluency in Arabic considered an advantage. They must be available for a minimum of eight shifts, lasting approximately eight hours each, spread across weekdays and weekends during the tournament, which will culminate on 18 December. “The Arab Cup is a very important tournament. It’s one of the largest events to be held before the World Cup. People who are interested can register specifically for this tournament. It will also help them to get into the SC database and provide them with opportunities in future,” al-Mogaiseeb said.
“It’s important for the volunteers to record a one minute video of themselves and talk about their interest and hobby because that will make it easy for the organisers to select them for the specific tasks. Each volunteer will go through different types of training. The first one will be general training where we will educate the volunteers about Arab World Cup and other things related to the tournament. Then volunteers will be trained on how to improve their communication skills and also educate them about different cultures. It’s a great opportunity for people in Qatar to be part of such a huge tournament,” al-Mogaiseeb added. Twenty-three teams from across the Arab world will take part in the FIFA Arab Cup, with the tournament seen as a vital opportunity for Qatar to test operations and facilities ahead of the World Cup. Matches will be held at six Qatar 2022 stadiums.
