The first graduates from Doha College’s Al Wajba campus have waved goodbye to their classmates and teachers. The pandemic dictated that they spend far less time than expected on the campus they had so eagerly anticipated for a good portion of their secondary education.
To extend the students’ presence for longer than their physical presence in the campus, Doha College unveiled a “Graduates’ Wall” made of their photos, which will stay on the Secondary Library frontage until their younger peers reach the same milestone next year.
Doha College staff and teaching methods swiftly adapted to prepare students for an entirely new process of admission to further education. The students received offers from many reputable universities from the UK and around the world, where they will study everything from medicine, mathematics, geoscience, psychology, drama, law, sports rehabilitation, astrophysics, politics, engineering, English literature and a lot more.
Many students of Class 2021 had been in Doha College right from their preschool year, so this was the first and only school they ever attended.
Dr Steffen Sommer, principal of Doha College, stated on the occasion: “We are exceedingly proud of our graduates of 2021. They’ve had a very difficult 6th Form with AS and A Levels cancelled, they were in and out of lessons because of Covid-19 measures, they adapted to blended learning and remote learning. During this very difficult time, Doha College did as well as it always has done, and our 6th Form excelled in it; they were role models like we have seen no others. They really have every reason to be very proud of what they have achieved for themselves and for the school. We could not have settled in our new campus as well as we have, had our graduates not set the tone as fervently and with as much zest as they did during these exceptional times. They will forever be remembered for the impact they’ve had on our first few steps here in the Al Wajba campus. We wish them all the very best for the future. They will go far, we know.”
