Institution of Engineers India (IEI) Qatar chapter recently conducted a technical webinar on ‘Micro Grid and Renewable SCADA System.’ It was attended by around 100 engineers via Zoom.
Azmy Ameer, president and executive director of Liverpool John Moores University, was the chief guest. Azmy explained that the traditional electricity grids had almost no storage capabilities. They are demand-driven and have a hierarchical structure. A smart grid is an electricity network enabling a two-way flow of electricity and data whereby smart metering is often seen as a first step and future possibilities of electric vehicles as well.
Giridhary Kutty, business development manager ETAP Automation MENA, was the keynote speaker. His talk highlighted the challenges and requirements for changing power grid from traditional to smart grid. He explained the comprehensive platform with integrated hardware and software to design, simulate, operate, control, optimise, and automate geographically-expansive electrical power system networks. He also explained SCADA model system and its product, how to minimise and simplify settings, support design to operation of a SCADA system and how to enable predictive simulation and handle distribution micro grid dynamic configuration.
Seenu Pillai, honorary advisor board of governor ASHRAE Qatar, was the guest of honour. He talked about the growth of IEI Qatar chapter since 1991 and its major contributions to Qatar engineers’ community. Abdul Sathar, honorary chairman of IEI Qatar chapter, welcomed the gathering, introduced the guest speakers and talked about the topic. Dr Abdul Hameed , IEI secretary, compered the event and Annad Nadgir, executive member, proposed the vote of thanks.
