The second phase of the agriculture census in Qatar was launched in co-operation between the Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (Sesri) at Qatar University (QU) and The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) on Tuesday.
The aim is to create an inventory of agricultural activities and cropping for the summer season, as well as counting fruitful trees, including palms, for the summer season. The inventory will cover all farms in the state.
The agriculture census provides data on the agricultural structure and the changes that have occurred, thereby helping set plans and drawing policies related to food security and sector development.
The second and final visit of the census will conclude towards the end of July. The Sesri appreciated the role of farm owners and officials in the success of the first phase.
