The Public Parks Department at Doha Municipality is betting big on parks and green spaces while making preparations to welcome the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
A slew of projects are being implemented as the department is working on the renovation of existing parks and developing more green spaces in co-operation with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).
Mohamed Abdullah Abbas, head of the Public Parks Department in Doha Municipality, told local Arabic daily Arrayah that the projects will be completed in June 2022 helping Qatar transform into a new look.
“Various projects are being implemented and Qatar is turning out to be a distinguished tourist destination in the GCC region. The garden departments in all municipalities are working to achieve this goal. Agricultural and beautification projects in the country are receiving great attention. The ongoing and planned afforestation and beautification projects in Doha Municipality will contribute to doubling the green areas in the municipality,” he said.
“The department is currently working in preparation for hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. After the World Cup, work will continue to achieve the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030,” he added.
The official said that beautification works were almost completed last year at Al Rayyan Street Intersection, Najma Street, E-Ring Road, Al Maheed Street and Ahmed Bin Ali Street. “Besides, works are on at Sports Intersection, Television Intersection Street, Khalifa Bridge and Lusail Street,” he said.
A number of parks and green spaces projects, according to him, are set to be delivered from the Public Works Authority (Ashghal). “Whenever Ashghal finishes paving a street and the beautification process is completed, the supervision is transferred to the department,” he added.
