The Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance Saoud bin Abdullah al-Attiyah participated in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2021) and reviewed the characteristics of the Qatari economy and the monetary policies implemented by the State to overcome the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This came during a session on the investment opportunities in Qatar and Russia, where al-Attiyah gave an overview of the developments of the Qatari economy, in addition to the reform process currently under way to improve the business environment. He also discussed the reforms implemented recently by the State of Qatar, aiming to attract business and empower the growth of the private sector.
Al-Attiyah noted that the State of Qatar's Gross Domestic Product grew five times from 2001 to 2019, at a pace of 9% a year. He also noted that the IMF expects the Qatari economy to grow 2.5-3% in the next few years, despite the impact of the pandemic.
This performance underpins the strong fundamentals for growth, including a long-term vision aligned with global trends to build a sustainable economy, strong institutions and prudent financial management, strong public finances, and a low debt-to-GDP ratio.
