Galfar Toastmasters Club (GTC) has been given Toastmaster International’s first Diamond Corporate Club Award. The prestigious award, introduced this year, was given in recognition of the club’s outstanding support to Toastmasters International’s communication and leadership programmes. The award was announced by Toastmasters International Director Aletta Rochat at recently held District 116 Toastmasters Annual Conference (DTAC) ‘Virtu Vocal 2021’.
Over the past 12 years, GTC has won the ‘Best Corporate Club’ award many times, and is considered one of the most sustainable and successful corporate clubs in Qatar. Galfar Al Misnad, a leading construction company operating in Qatar for more than 25 years, instituted its own corporate toastmasters club in 2009 as a management initiative to develop leadership and communication skills amongst staff members. Through this programme, the company has seen a large number of employees upgrading themselves to perform better in their functional roles as good speakers and effective leaders.
“The management has provided sustained support to our toastmasters club for more than a decade now. We have seen that the toastmasters’ initiatives motivate our employees and have served as a catalyst for leadership building in the organisation,” said Satish G Pillai, executive director of Galfar Al Misnad.
Within three years of its existence, members of GTC started participating in Area contests, and since then the club has ensured its representation right up to the District level in the speech contests. Galfar toastmasters have also contributed many dynamic leaders to the toastmasters’ community in Qatar, who have served in the Area, Division and District levels.
“It is the great vision of our executive director and the senior management that has motivated Galfar employees to develop their communication and leadership skills. Through the team effort of senior members, newly joined members and the executive committee members, we were able to retain our position at the top. GTC strives to produce great speakers and leaders so that the individuals can improve themselves as well as the company’s performance,” said Subramanya Hebbagelu, GTC president.
The Diamond Corporate Club Award was one of many received by GTC and its members at the virtual conference. Other awards received by the club are: Golden Quarter Award, Silver Membership Award, Golden Membership Award, Glittering Membership Award, Smedley Award, Talk Up Toastmasters Award, Swift Seven Award, and Pinnacle Crown Award.
In addition, GTC members also received the following individual awards: CGD Special Recognition for Sponsoring 6+ members for Abhijith, Thirumurugan, and Gopalakrishnan; Dynamic Member Award for Subramanya Hebbagelu, Gopalakrishnan, Mubeen, Masher, and Vaseem; Vibrant Member Award for Thirumurugan and Abhijith Shankar; Dynamic Treasure Award for Vaseem; and the Pathways Champion Award for Vishal Tanwar.
