Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani, President of the Qatar Football Association (QFA), received on Sunday Omar al-Barzanji, ambassador of Iraq to Qatar.
This visit came within the framework of strengthening the longstanding relations between the two brotherly countries. The meeting was attended by Saud al-Mohannadi, Vice President of QFA, and Mansour al-Ansari, Secretary-General of QFA.
During the meeting, the visiting ambassador discussed issues of mutual interest and sought co-operation between Iraq and Qatar in the field of football.
The ambassador said Iraq was keen to activate exchange programmes that would help develop sports in both countries especially football.
The discussions also centred around Iraq’s ongoing preparations to host the 25th edition of the Gulf Cup in Basra.
For his part, the Iraqi ambassador thanked QFA for offering technical assistance in helping Iraq host the next Gulf Cup.
