Under the patronage and presence of of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Qatar University (QU) celebrated the graduation of the male students from its 43rd batch on Sunday.
Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim al-Thani, the consort of His Highness the Amir, will patronise the graduation ceremony of the female students today at QU's Sports and Events Complex.
Yesterday, His Highness the Amir honoured 109 distinguished graduates, while QU president Dr Hassan bin Rashid al-Derham presented the certificates to 733 graduate students in various disciplines.
A total of 3,188 graduates are part of QU’s Class of 2020, including graduates from a full academic year comprising of Fall 2019, Winter 2020, Spring 2020 and Summer 2020.











Speaking at the ceremony yesterday, Dr al- Derham said, "While we are celebrating the graduation of the 43rd batch of Qatar University students, our beloved country is witnessing a comprehensive renaissance that would not have been achieved without the accumulation of the efforts exerted by its people and their support for its leaders."
QU had the honour to contribute to this comprehensive renaissance by preparing generations of over 45,000 graduates who have contributed to the building of the homeland, he noted.
On the occasion, a documentary film was shown about QU's achievements during the academic year 2019-2020, and the most prominent activities, programmes and research innovations in various fields. It also included a presentation on the university's ability to rapidly shift to online teaching during Covid-19 pandemic. It highlighted QU's contributions to the country's efforts to combat the pandemic, the development of the university's infrastructure, and the opening of the College of Dental Medicine.
Dr al-Derham also pointed out that to spread a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, QU has worked on initiatives, such as the establishment of Qatar University technology company, which is concerned with incubating and developing innovative ideas for students and professors, and through which it will establish startup companies that represent an added value to the local economy.
Student speaker Hamad Abdullah al-Jumaili praised QU's efforts in supporting students throughout their university years and creating a distinct educational environment. He also called on the graduates to exert great efforts in the field of work to serve and build the nation.
The graduation ceremony was held amidst precautionary and preventive measures to limit the spread of Covid-19.
