The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), represented by the Private Education Affairs Sector, has issued the 2021 academic policy for teaching compulsory subjects - Arabic language, Islamic education and Qatari history - in private schools and kindergartens, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported on Wednesday.
This is an update of the same policy that was issued for the 2019-2020 academic year.
This is the first time that schools are obliged to apply the teaching of Arabic language and Islamic education subjects from the kindergarten and pre-school stage, the QNA report states.
A circular from the Private Schools Affairs Department at the MoEHE's Private Education Affairs Sector has been sent to all such schools and kindergartens in this regard.
It states that the most important aspects of the updated version of the academic policy for compulsory subjects are as follows:
* The necessity of teaching Arabic language and Islamic education subjects starting from the pre-school level (kindergarten and preparatory) in all private schools and kindergartens.
* The necessity of teaching the three compulsory subjects in all educational curricula and systems, in accordance with the sequence of classes.
* Schools' commitment to the terms and conditions of equivalency for grades 10, 11 and 12, in accordance with Ministerial Resolution No 11 for 2021.
* The commitment of private schools to evaluate the compulsory subjects for all grades (grades 1 through 12) according to the target groups in all educational curricula and systems.
The circular has been issued by Rashid Ahmed al-Ameri, acting director of the Private Schools Affairs Department.
The three mandatory subjects should be allocated separate teaching hours within the school day, and each student should be provided with an original copy of the educational resources approved by the ministry.
Further, specialised and able staff should be available to teach these subjects while constantly improving and updating their skills according to the outcome of the educational evaluation of students.
These updates, regarding the academic policy for the three mandatory subjects, come in light of the interest and keenness to promote the national identity and religious values among students in private schools and kindergartens, and are based on remarks and observations received from the educational field, schools and parents, as well as the evaluation of the members of the educational system for the academic policy issued in 2019.
The MoEHE will conduct periodic forums and meetings to follow up on the application and implementation of curricula in private schools and kindergartens to educate and empower their principals about the support mechanism strategies. These will also help provide schools with the latest relevant publications, information or bulletins, and encourage the participation of teachers and co-ordinators in forums, meetings or competitions organised or supervised by the ministry.
Further, this will enhance interaction with the communication sites of the academic departments at the MoEHE and inform schools about any consultations, questions or information through open channels.
