Russian President Vladimir Putin received the credentials of HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser al-Thani as Qatar's ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia.
The ambassador conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to the Russian president, wishing him good health and happiness, and the Russian government and people continued progress and prosperity.
For his part, the Russian president entrusted the ambassador to convey his greetings to His Highness the Amir, wishing him good health and happiness, and Qatar continued progress, development and prosperity.
President Putin also wished the ambassador success in his duties, assuring him of providing all support to advance the bilateral relations to closer co-operation in various fields.
In a speech during an official ceremony held in the Kremlin yesterday, the Russian president said: "I have a very good relationship with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. His Highness the Amir has been invited to visit Russia, and we will implement this plan."
He noted that Russia is closely co-operating with Qatar on the organisation and holding of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, adding: "Our agenda of interaction with the State of Qatar is quite rich. It includes promoting investment partnerships and joint efforts to reveal the potential of cooperation in trade and the economy."
He pointed out that a representative Qatari delegation will take part in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum in June 2021.
