The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced that parents can now register their children, aged 12 to 15 years, to take the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine through the MoPH website by using the link, https://app-covid19.moph.gov.qa/en/instructions.html
"To register your child for the vaccine, you will need to visit the MoPH vaccination registration site and choose the option to register your children. You will then be required to enter your child’s QID, this will generate a passcode on the mobile number under which the child’s QID is registered to complete the process," the ministry said in a statement yesterday.
Following registration, the parent of the registered child will receive an SMS from the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) team to confirm the appointment date and time.
Dr Mariam Abdul Malik, managing director of PHCC, said: “Our children have spent much of this pandemic doing distance learning, with many missing school clubs, team sports and spending time with family and friends. The ability to vaccinate them is crucial to not only protecting them but also looking forward to the return to normal.
"The rollout of this phase of the vaccine campaign using the registration system will help us continue to ensure a smooth, effective and safe delivery of the vaccine. The Pfizer vaccine will be offered to those registered online and those who have a received an SMS appointment. Our teams are working hard to ensure that everyone registered will be invited in the most efficient, timely manner.”
She added: “I am thrilled that those aged 12 years and older can now be protected, and I urge all parents to register their child. Offering the vaccine to 12-15-year-olds will helps us look forward to days when our younger people can study in a safe environment, spend time with friends, travel with their families and enjoy their communities safely."
Offering the vaccine to 12-15-year-olds in Qatar will help ensure a return to greater normalcy when the school year starts this coming September, the MoPH had said in a statement while announcing last week that children in this age group are to be offered the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine in Qatar..
The move to extend the opportunity to children aged from 12-15 years to take the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine comes shortly after Pfizer said its study of the vaccine’s use in participants of this age group found that it was “safe and extremely effective in preventing Covid-19 cases”. Also, the US Food and Drug Administration approved the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for 12-15-year-olds in the US.
