The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced that the results of laboratory tests on 'Al Majadwal' dates samples collected from the local market are safe and comply with relevant health requirements.
The ministry had taken a number of preventive measures to assure safety and suitability of 'Al Majadwal' dates available in the domestic market after receiving an international notification of an probe in an European nation concerning Hepatitis A cases where there is a possibility that the infections may be related to consumption of these kind of dates.
According to the notification, the dates were imported from the Middle East and packaged locally.limited
Although the referred brand isn't available in the local market, the Ministry of Public Health has taken additional precautionary measures, including investigating Hepatitis cases recorded in Qatar. It was found that there is no link between the cases and the consumption of dates.
Ports were instructed to detain any imported quantities of dates, including for non-commercial purposes, and have these sent for inspection before being allowed into the country. (QNA)
