On the occasion of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, Galfar Al Misnad conducted a virtual awareness session on 'Mental Health & Resilience' with Occupational Health and Wellbeing consultant Dr Farah Ahmed, managing director and chief medical adviser of Noor Corporate Health.
In addition to the online session, special toolbox talks and awareness sessions on safety and health were conducted at the leading Qatari construction company’s project sites with Covid-19 protocols in place, Galfar Al Misnad said in a statement.
The virtual session was inaugurated by Galfar’s executive director, Satish G Pillai, who emphasised that the present pandemic situation has created a stressful situation for everyone.
At the same time, commitments towards clients needed to be upheld, and hence it was important to learn how to be resilient by prioritising mental health and learning coping strategies.
In her presentation, Dr Ahmed explained that while mental health has always played an important role in safety and health in construction, the Covid-19 pandemic has amplified the need for raising awareness on the importance of looking after mental health to prevent incidents at the work place and at home.
She went on to provide helpful insights on ways to take care of mental health, which included lifestyle changes such as sleep regulation, healthy diets and exercise, as well as seeking professional help from counsellors and psychiatrists when required.
The month of May is globally commemorated as Mental Health Awareness Month.
"Galfar Al Misnad gives utmost priority to health and safety in all its activities. The leading Qatari construction company is a seven-time recipient of the International Safety Award from British Safety Council, and was recently awarded the prestigious award for the fifth consecutive year," the statement added.
