The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has said 44.7% of people aged 16 years and above have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccines in Qatar.
In its weekly data published on Sunday, the MoPH said 1,603,913 vaccine doses have been administered since the start of the National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme.
Of these, 188,152 vaccine doses were given in the last seven days, up from the 167,532 doses administered in the previous week.
A further break-up of the weekly data revealed that 86% of people over 60 years of age, 82.4% of people over 70 years and 80.7% of people over 80 years have received at least one dose of the vaccines.
Also, according to the daily Covid-19 data published by the MoPH yesterday, 75.9% of people over 60 years of age have received both doses of the vaccines.
The vaccination programme is being delivered at the Primary Health Care Corporation's 27 primary health centres, vaccination facilities at Qatar National Convention Centre and in the Industrial Area, and two drive-through vaccination centres in Lusail and Al Wakra.
The availability of more vaccines as well as the opening of additional vaccination centres have enabled Qatar to significantly increase the pace of the vaccination programme since February.
Daily Covid-19 cases in Qatar have been declining steadily due to the current restrictions and the fast rollout of the vaccination programme, a senior official from the ministry had said on Saturday.
“It is still too early to be sure whether we have overcome the second wave of the pandemic but if we all continue to adhere to the restrictions and follow the preventive measures, we will see a persistent fall in the number of cases. We will ease the current restrictions only when we are sure that the threat of the disease has subsided,” said Dr Soha al- Bayat, head of vaccination at the MoPH, during an interview with Qatar TV.
