Qatar Charity (QC) has signed three agreements to implement qualitative projects and provide social assistance in Kosovo.
The projects include building mosques, digging wells and supporting poor families.
The agreements were signed in the presence of Ali bin Hamad al-Marri, Qatar's ambassador to Albania and Kosovo; Ilir Kapiti, Deputy Minister of Finance and Labour; Sheikh Naim Ternava, Grand Mufti of Kosovo; Naim Ismajli, mayor of the Municipality of Stimlje; and Nawaf al-Hammadi, CEO's assistant for the International Operations and Programmes sector at Qatar Charity.
Al-Hammadi signed the first agreement with the General Islamic Sheikhdom in Kosovo to build a mosque at a cost of QR2,500,000. The mosque is expected to accommodate 1,000 worshippers.
He inked the second pact worth over QR2mn with Kesco to pay the electricity bills of 866 poor families for a whole year, and the third agreement with the Municipality of Stimlje to dig 38 water wells, QC said in a statement.
Al-Marri emphasised the distinguished relations between Qatar and Kosovo. He added, "We in Qatar attach importance to strengthening relations with Kosovo in various fields, and signing these agreements is a gift from the people of Qatar to our brothers in Kosovo through Qatar Charity."
He noted the support provided by Qatar to Kosovo over the years in various sectors such as health, education, housing and relief, hoping for continued
co-operation between the two countries.
Kapiti thanked Qatar for its effective humanitarian contributions in Kosovo, wishing the continuation of this co-operation in the future.
Al-Hammadi conveyed the greetings of the people in Qatar to the people of Kosovo. “We at Qatar Charity are happy with this partnership spanning over more than 21 years in Kosovo,” he said, indicating that signing these agreements are an extension of QC’s work and duty for the people in Kosovo.
Sheikh Naim praised the constructive co-operation between QC and the Islamic Sheikhdom, especially in implementing mosque projects. He said the construction of this mosque will improve the life and infrastructure in this part of the municipality of Ferizaj. He also expressed gratitude to the Qatari people and government, in addition to thanking Qatar Charity.
Ismajli, who signed the well-drilling agreement, praised Qatar for extending a helping hand to people in Kosovo and applauded the role of QC in implementing projects. He said this agreement comes in a timely manner, "especially as we are at the beginning of the summer season, when the level of water becomes very low in villages of the municipality".
He indicated that by implementing this well project, the water problem will be solved for many poor families.
