Marc-Andre Fleury made 14 saves for his fifth shutout of the season and moved into a tie with Ed Belfour for fourth place on the all-time wins with his 484th career victory as the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Arizona Coyotes 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas.
Tomas Nosek scored the winner midway through the third period for Vegas, which completed its eighth sweep of a two-game series this season. Fleury, who had to make just four saves in both the second and third periods, also moved into a tie for 15th place on the NHL’s all-time shutout list with Patrick Roy with 66th career shutout. The 14 shots allowed were a franchise-record low for Vegas.
Adin Hill finished with 28 saves in his 10th consecutive start for Arizona.
Vegas, which scored four goals in the span of 5:41 early in the first period of a 7-4 victory over the Coyotes in Friday’s front end of the back-the-back, had a 25-10 edge in shots on goal over the first two periods, which ended scoreless thanks in great part to the goalposts.
The Golden Knights clanged the iron four times, including a crossbar and post in the first period by Max Pacioretty, who was denied his 300th career goal. Alex Tuch also hit the far post on a first period shot while Alex Pietrangelo hit another post midway through the second period. Not to be outdone, Alex Goligoski hit the post for the Coyotes early in the second.
Nosek finally gave Vegas a 1-0 lead at the 10:38 mark in the third period with his seventh goal of the season. The score was set up by Jonathan Marchessault who scooped up a Jakob Chychrun turnover along the right boards and then backhanded a pass to Nosek cutting down the slot, where he fired a wrist shot past Hill’s glove side. Arizona had a chance to tie it three minutes later but Dryden Hunt’s shot from the left circle went off the post. Pacioretty then hit another crossbar with five minutes to go.
The Coyotes pulled Hill for an extra-attacker with 1:10 left and Fleury turned away a Conor Garland slap shot before Garland picked up a penalty for upending Mark Stone along the boards with 15 seconds to go.

Sabres used balanced
scoring to defeat Flyers
Sam Reinhart and four other players scored one goal apiece as the visiting Buffalo Sabres rallied past the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3 on Sunday.
The Sabres’ other goals came from Arttu Ruotsalainen, Jeff Skinner, Rasmus Asplund and Casey Mittelstadt. Asplund’s goal, in the third period, proved to be the game-winner.
Jacob Bryson added two assists for the Sabres, who defeated the Flyers for the third time this season.
Goaltender Linus Ullmark made 40 saves for Buffalo, which overcame a 2-0 deficit in the second period. Shayne Gostisbehere and Joel Farabee each had one goal and one assist and Oskar Lindblom added one goal for the Flyers, who began the day four points out of a playoff spot in the East Division.
Flyers goaltender Carter Hart stopped 26 shots. The Flyers dominated most of the first period and went ahead 1-0 when Lindblom connected at 11:36. The puck appeared to deflect off Ullmark from behind and into the net.
Farabee scored on the power play at 14:14 for a 2-0 advantage. It was Farabee’s team-leading 15th goal of the season.
The Sabres received a power play with 2:59 left in the first but were unable to capitalize and trailed by two goals at the end of the period.
Buffalo closed to 2-1 at 3:56 of the second period when Reinhart tapped the puck into a wide open net. Reinhart has six goals against the Flyers this season. Less than one minute later, the Sabres equalized as Ruotsalainen notched his first goal at 4:42. Soon after, Philadelphia’s Nicolas Aube-Kubel found himself wide open in front but shot the puck over the net.
The Flyers took a 3-2 advantage at 3:47 of the third when Gostisbehere received a crisp pass from Farabee and fired a wrist shot under Ullmark’s pads. Buffalo’s Dylan Cozens had a wrist shot saved by Hart at 11:40 of the third. After the save, a scrum developed with numerous players on both teams behind the Flyers’ net.
The Sabres tied the score at 3 when the puck bounced off Skinner’s skate at 16:57. The goal was reviewed by the officials and allowed after a long review. Asplund then pushed the Sabres ahead 4-3 just 25 seconds later when he scored on the backhand.
