Malabar Gold & Diamonds has planned month-long CSR (corporate social responsibility) activities in association with embassies, associations and like-minded organisations to benefit the needy.
In a press statement, the group said it plans to distribute food kits to labourers and families still recovering from the economic and social consequences brought about by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
This initiative is expected to benefit a large section of the society across all countries in which the group operates.
Malabar Gold & Diamonds has pledged over 1.1mn meals this Ramadan.
"CSR remains a core value at Malabar Gold & Diamonds since its inception in 1993. We have realigned our CSR initiatives during Ramadan to distributing food kits to affected families and individuals to help ease their current circumstances," said Malabar Group vice-chairman Abdul Salam K P. “We aim to create a difference to the community in and around our area of operations as well as to drive other organisations, both big and small, to initiate such activities that will help the needy.”
The food kits contain essential supplies, including staple, lentils, oil and spices.
Those in real need of the food kits will be identified through respective embassies, like-minded organisations and regional associations such as Qatar Sparsham, the KMCC, the Sri Lankan Community, the Bangladesh Association, the Cultural Forum, the Youth Forum, and the Karnataka Muslim Cultural Association, as well as through the references provided by customers of Malabar Gold & Diamonds, the statement notes.
"As the initiative is spearheaded by the team members of Malabar Gold & Diamonds along with embassies, like-minded organisations and associations, we are certain that together we can identify and provide support to the needy in the local communities,” said Malabar Gold & Diamonds managing director (International Operations) Shamlal Ahamed. “It gives me a lot of happiness that we continue to do what we do best: supporting each other, our partners, the authorities and offering a helping hand to communities around us.”
“All our CSR initiatives would not be possible without the patronage of our customers and we invite them to be a part of the initiative as well," he added.
Malabar Gold & Diamonds "believes that the most successful companies are those which integrate responsibility and sustainability into their core business. The group is always proactive when it comes to CSR activities right from the inception", the statement adds.
The key focus areas of the Malabar Group’s CSR initiatives are in the areas of health, education, women's empowerment, housing and environment.
The organisation has kept aside 5% of its profit for CSR activities in all the regions where it operates.
The group, which currently has showrooms across the GCC, India, Malaysia, Singapore, and the US, undertakes several welfare activities throughout the year in the respective regions.
