Qatar Charity (QC) has won the Social Responsibility Award 2021 for the Humanitarian Work Sector at the eighth Social Responsibility Conference and Awards organised by Dar Al Sharq under the slogan 'Community Responsibility Against Covid-19'.
The award went to Qatar Charity "in appreciation of its great role against the Covid-19 pandemic within and outside Qatar", QC said in a press statement.
Abdul Aziz Jassim Hajji, director of Marketing and Customer Service at QC, received the award at a ceremony along with other winners. The award aims to raise awareness about social responsibility and its positive impact on building co-operative societies, and encourage companies and governmental and private institutions to pay attention to this aspect for the benefit of the nation.
Hajji thanked Dar Al Sharq, expressing happiness at the honor that Qatar Charity received for the humanitarian sector, which played a major role in curbing the outbreak.
“We give this award to everyone who donated, contributed and participated with us to fill the world with good,” said Hajji.
He indicated that QC has been keen to carry out its humanitarian duty since the beginning of the pandemic last year, in co-operation with the relevant authorities, in Qatar and worldwide. He also noted that Qatar Charity continues its humanitarian mission as the pandemic continues for the second year in a row, emphasising that it will keep supporting local and international efforts against this epidemic.
He pointed out that QC has focused on raising awareness among individuals and communities of the coronavirus, the need to take precautionary measures to limit the spread of Covid-19, and delivering health and food aid to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the pandemic.
Qatar Charity’s efforts against the Covid-19 pandemic received praise, and the organisation was chosen as one of Qatar’s top 10 most supportive brands that have participated in supporting the country during the coronavirus pandemic, based on phone interviews conducted by Ipsos, one of the world’s largest market research organisations.
Jordanian Prime Minister Dr Omar al-Razzaz also praised QC for supporting the kingdom’s efforts in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the conference, three discussion sessions were held to discuss the role of companies and institutions against the coronavirus pandemic. QC participated in a session in which Mohamed al-Ghamdi, CEO’s assistant for the Governance Sector at Qatar Charity, spoke about QC's efforts to confront the coronavirus pandemic.
He said since the outbreak of Covid-19, Qatar Charity has taken an urgent step to contribute to the local and international efforts to curb the outbreak of the pandemic and alleviate the suffering of those affected by the pandemic, noting that these efforts come to support the
efforts of the governments and the competent authorities against the pandemic.
Al-Ghamdi indicated that QC has extended $27mn worth of support to 60 countries worldwide, benefiting approximately 1mn people, in co-operation with its partners and United Nations agencies.
He pointed out that for the first time, poverty and hunger rates have increased in this magnitude in decades due to the pandemic, noting that there are 235mn people in need of humanitarian aid, an increase of 40% compared to last year with the decline in global funding for humanitarian aid, in addition to an increase in the number of people suffering from the need for acute food security by 82%.
