The Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the Agricultural Quarantine offices of the Agricultural Affairs Department, examined during March as many as 5,134 consignments weighing 77,949 tonnes. A total of 33 consignments weighing 35.95 tonnes were destroyed for violation of the Agricultural Quarantine Law. Agricultural quarantine is the first line of defence for protection from crop infections. The preventive procedure is aimed at protecting the country’s agricultural wealth from foreign origin pests. All imported plants, agricultural products and any other materials are subject to phytosanitary regulations to ensure they conform to the standards followed by Qatar.
