Qatar University’s (QU) College of Health Sciences Student Association (CHSSA) hosted the first unique ‘Recording Health’ university level competition through the Webex platform.
The competition which started in August last year, concluded on April 3 with three winners. The competition included the production of a short video about health.
A key objective was to develop the contestants creative abilities in the scientific field and to deliver difficult scientific contents to all segments of society in a simple and fun way. The competition took place in several stages, and also included the provision of a content-making and editing workshop to support the participants.
The idea of the competition was derived from the way health workers help the community. As some medical topics are difficult and complex, it was necessary to simplify the content and put it in a simple and fun template, to suit all age groups in society.
The competition started with 15 contestants divided into eight groups, and they were asked to make two videos. The first included 30 seconds of explanation, while the second was three minutes long and explained the scientific material in detail.
The teaser video was shown on the League's Instagram account to get the audience to vote on the top six videos to qualify for the second stage. The original video was shown at the closing ceremony to the jury on the Webex platform, whose vote represents 80% of the total winning percentage, while the audience vote on the day of the event represents 20% of the winning percentage.
Jawaher al-Emadi, president of CHSSA expressed her happiness with the completion of this competition, which was aimed at achieving a healthy and more effective university life by spreading awareness in innovative ways.
Asma Hassan, vice president of CHSSA said: “The difficulty in understanding the scientific contents always lies in the method of its delivery to individuals. Therefore, it was necessary to devise new methods of communicating scientific materials to the general public in a simple way.”
CHSSA thanked the dean of the College of Health Sciences, Dr. Hanan Abdel-Rahim for her continuous support to her students and her high confidence in them. The jury comprised College of Pharmacy assistant dean Dr Nour Majbour, Human Nutrition Department head Dr Alaa al-Owaisi, and biomedical science laboratory technologist Dr Abdul Rahman al-Jamal.
