Qatar University (QU) Library, in partnership with Dar Lusail publishers and distributors, kicked off a five-day 'Virtual Book Fair' on Monday with participation of several publishing houses in Qatar.
The event features more than 300 printing presses and includes diverse seminars with participation of international and local publishing houses. The seminars focus on development, cultural advancement and promotion of culture.
The seminar programme was inaugurated with a session presented by Dr. Daraa Moujib Al-Dossary, Training and Institutional Development advisor, on emotional intelligence engineering.
Upcoming seminars are by Dr Muhammad al-Noaimi, assistant professor of Political Science at QU, under the title of ‘American foreign policy towards the Middle East’, by Dr Jassim Sultan, an advisor for strategic planning and author of the Renaissance Project series, and by Dr Abdelhak Belabed, associate professor of Arabic Language at College of Arts and Sciences, QU, on ‘Systematic Reading and Changing Our Habits of Reading Comprehension’.
During his speech, QU president Dr Hassan bin Rashid al-Derham, said: “We believe in working towards betterment and improvement despite the pandemic. The virtual book fair provides opportunity to all those who wish to explore new books and research new discoveries.”
Dr. Hassan added that the idea of virtual book exhibition was launched by Europe’s first Arabic book fair. Dar Lusail Publishing house took the initiative to participate in the first virtual session of the Arab Book Fair in Europe, organised by a Swedish company named Nordic Digital World. This exhibition featured Arab writers and a number of cultural institutions in Europe.
