The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced that seven out of 10 people over 60 years of age have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine dose since the start of Qatar's National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reports.
In its weekly vaccination update issued Sunday, the MoPH said 71.6% of people over 60 years of age, 72% of people over 70 years of age, and 71.6% of people over 80 years of age have now received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Also, one out of five adults in Qatar has received at least one dose of the vaccine until now.
Overall, a total of 740,309 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in the country so far, the MoPH informed, with 145,696 doses being given in the last seven days.
The seven-day figure increased from the 134,498 doses administered in the previous week.
According to the latest weekly update, 21.9% of the total population (16 years and above) have received at least one dose of the vaccine until now.
Meanwhile, HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari visited the new Al Wakra Drive-Through Vaccination Centre Sunday, noting that it would serve the wider geography of Al Wakra and increase the capacity to vaccinate people.
"I was delighted to visit the Al Wakra Covid-19 Drive-Through Vaccination Centre today on its 'go live' day," HE the Minister said in a statement posted by the MoPH on social media. "This new facility will service the wider geography of Al Wakra and increase our capacity to vaccinate in line with our vaccination plan. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the hundreds of vaccination health workers across all our vaccination centres working diligently to keep our population safe."
The Al Wakra facility opened yesterday, following the success of Qatar’s first Covid-19 Drive-Through Vaccination Centre in Lusail. The facility is located behind Al Janoub Stadium and operational from 11am to 10pm, seven days a week. Last entry to the centre is at 9pm daily.
With the vaccination programme progressing, every day hundreds more older people - the most vulnerable members of the population - are getting vaccinated against Covid-19 and becoming protected from its potentially devastating effects, QNA said in its report. People over 60 years of age can call 4027 7077 to make their vaccination appointment.
All 27 primary health centres continue to offer vaccines to older people in a safe and comfortable environment and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC)'s Home Healthcare Service teams are also playing a vital role by visiting patients homes to administer vaccines to housebound patients, as well as family and household members who closely interact with them, the report states.
With more than 75% of registered home care patients aged over 60 years, HMC's Home Healthcare Service is proving to be an incredibly important part of the strategy to protect older people from Covid-19. Each clinical team involved in the vaccination campaign is made up of four healthcare professionals, including two specialist nurses, a patient care assistant and a physician.
Since launching at the end of February, home care teams have helped ensure that more than 1,000 home healthcare patients and 3,500 family members are now vaccinated.
Patients registered with HMC's Home Healthcare Service can call the newly established Hamad Home Healthcare Call Centre at 4439 0111 for help and advice on home healthcare needs as well as Covid-19 vaccination.
