In line with its "remarkable contributions" to children’s education since 2017, LuLu Hypermarket Qatar has collected and delivered donations of QR2mn to Education Above All (EAA) Foundation’s Together Project. The Together Project has so far provided access to education to more than 2,000 children through scholarships across various community and private schools in Qatar.
LuLu Hypermarket formally donated the QR2mn cheque to EAA Foundation in an official ceremony attended by representatives of both the foundation and LuLu. The fundraising campaign ran since October 2020 via active customer donations at LuLu Hypermarket stores across the country, to raise money in order to overcome gaps in education and financial barriers in line with EAA’s mission to provide equal access to quality education for all learners, the foundation said in a press statement.
Mubarak al-Thani, communication manager and head of advocacy at EAA Foundation, said: "We are pleased for our partner LuLu Hypermarket’s extraordinary support in recognition of the barriers children around the world face regarding the fundamental right to quality education. This contribution will go a long way in impacting children's lives through enrolment who may otherwise could not access education and have missed out on key learning and development opportunities.
"We also extend special thanks to all the customers and members of our community, who offered their donation to the fundraising campaign and helped children unlock their full potential through education."
Dr Mohamed Althaf, director of LuLu Group International, said: "We are delighted to extend our support and the incredible contributions of our customers to Education Above All Foundation and its mission to provide equal learning opportunities to children facing various compounded barriers to education. Every child deserves access to quality education that can help them grow into productive society members. Each donation carries a transformational, real-life impact on the next generation."
The donation comes as an extension of LuLu Hypermarket’s longstanding commitment to EAA’s initiatives, the statement notes. Since 2017, LuLu Hypermarket Qatar contributed QR3.65mn per year from 2017 until 2020 to EAA’s Educate A Child (EAC) programme to support its mission to transform millions of lives by improving access to education – a commitment that has been renewed for QR14.6mn over the next four years from 2021 to 2024.
As part of this, funds allocated to the EAA/Unicef USA project targeted enrolment of an additional 366,286 Syrian out-of-school children in the conflict-affected country through psychosocial support, provision of learning materials, teacher training and classroom rehabilitation/construction.
Launched in 2017, EAA’s Together Project is dedicated to identifying and addressing the barriers that keep deserving children in Qatar from enroling in school. Through the scholarships and enrolment, Together has addressed barriers to education and ensured educational access for some 2,044 children.
LuLu Hypermarket will continue to play an active role in creating opportunities for children to access quality education and unlock a better future, the statement adds.
