Bred and owned by His Highness Sheikh Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa al-Thani, the Purebred Arabian filly Amel stormed to a two-and-a-half length win on her racecourse debut on Sunday. The four-year-old daughter of Al Mamun Monlau is trained by Thomas Fourcy and was ridden by Guillaume Guedj-Gay in the Prix Magic De Piboul - Wathba Stallions Cup at Mont de Marsan, France.
Ten lined up in this conditions race, which marks the return of the turf season in France. Rysk Tout came in second, with Asma Tourettes three-quarters-of-a-length further back in third.
“She has debuted correctly despite being very green and having a good look around when she hit the front. She ended up in the lead early, which is never easy on debut. But when her jockey Guillaume Guedj-Gay put down his stick and picked up his reins, she found a good stride to finish. It’s a good sign for the future,” said Fourcy after the race
Regally bred, Amel is out of Sheikh Abdullah’s blue hen Al Hanoof, the dam of champions General and Al Dahma. Al Dahma has also produced the dual Group 1 scorer Yazeed.

High Impact opens scorecard for Al Shaqab
In Machecoul, High Impact, owned and bred by Al Shaqab Racing, crossed the line in front in the Prix Pride, mile race for three-year-old maidens, breaking his maiden on his first start as a three-year-old on Sunday. He has run four times at two and he was the runner-up in a maiden at Vichy in August on his second attempt.
Trained by Henri Francois Devin in Chantilly, the gelding was ridden by Cyril Stefan in this mile contest. He won comfortably, by two lengths in front of Electroscope while Love Affair was a further short head behind in third.
By the late great Japanese sire Deep Impact, High Impact is out of Bea Remembered, dam of Stormy Antarctic, a hugely consistent Group performer from two to seven years old, and of Al Johrah, who finished second in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot for the same connections.
