The Bangladesh embassy in Qatar has celebrated the 101st birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day 2021 . A virtual inaugural ceremony of the Bangladesh Open University course was held on this special day to commemorate Bangabandhu's outstanding contribution in the field of education. In the inaugural ceremony, among others, the ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar Mohamed Jashim Uddin and the Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University Prof Dr M A Mannan spoke.
The speakers paid deep homage to Father of the Nation and called upon the expatriates to contribute in building a better Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Foreign Minister, AK Abdul Momen MP, in his video message, said that the launch of international programme of Bangladesh Open University through distance learning will take education to the doorsteps of Bangladesh expatriates and benefit them in their professions. He termed the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s Independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu as a rare event in the history of Bangladesh and called for observing the days in a befitting manner.
Earlier in the morning, ambassador Jashim Uddin inaugurated the day's programme by hoisting the national flag on the embassy premises. Later, homage was paid to Bangabandhu by laying floral wreaths on the portrait of the Father of the Nation and by cutting a cake. A discussion session was also held at the embassy on the life and works of Father of the Nation.
Embassy officials and staff members attended the event, adhering to the Covid-19 preventive measures. In his speech, the ambassador paid deep homage to Father of the Nation. Referring to the achievements made by Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he called upon all to work together to realise Bangabandhu's dream of a Golden Bengal. The ambassador also inaugurated the sports competition organised on the occasion.
