Thirty is an important number for Qatar. While 70 percent of the population are under 30 years old, Qatar is also striving and making headway towards the country’s 2030 transformative vision. Qatar’s National Vision aims that – by 2030 – Qatar becomes an advanced society capable of sustaining its development and providing a high standard of living for its people. For me, 30 is a goal – not in age, but in wanting to try and increase the number of people following plant-based diets by the year 2030 by 30 percent.
I’ve always been clearly focused on trying to meet goals that achieve my vegan goals, particularly ensuring that access to vegan food continues to grow for a country with a fast-growing vegan movement like Qatar.
That’s why it gives me great pleasure to write this week about a new concept I’ve launched, Thalatheen. Thalatheen (the Arabic word for 30) is a new dining concept rooted in Qatari heritage, located at the iconic jewel of our country, the National Museum of Qatar.
With Thalatheen, we are joining HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and Qatar Museums in becoming another new platform for arts, innovation, culture, and education — all centred around plant-based dining.
I’ve written extensively in my Gulf-Times column about culture, and the link between culture and veganism. Thalatheen has culture at its core. A space for coming together around international flavours of the world, shared conversation and a true sense of community – with the majestic backdrop of the National Museum, a landmark quickly becoming a global icon given its unique architecture. Expect exquisite food design, with authenticity, culture and creativity at the heart and soul of everything we do.
