Top 10 teams are ready to take part in the 3x3 World Tour Doha Masters 2021, the first event of the season. The event will be held on March 26 and 27.
Of the 14 teams that are set to compete in Doha, 10 are locked in and ready to go. The final four will be determined by three Quest events and a host entrance.
The teams that we will be in Qatar to begin the year are (in ranking order): Liman, Riga, Ub, NY Harlem, Princeton, Novi Sad, Amsterdam Talent&Pro, Piran, Sakiai Gulbele, and Edmonton.
These teams make up the current top-10 in the FIBA 3x3 Team Ranking and will look to launch their 2021 season with a positive start.
The official rosters not in place yet, but one can expect to see some of the best talent 3x3 has to offer during the event.
Riga (LAT) returns to begin the defense of their 2020 title, re-loaded with reigning MVP Nauris Miezis and his trusty sidekick, Karlis Lasmanis. Also filling up the field will be Liman, Ub, and Novi Sad, the Serbian trio of teams that stand in their way.
Novi Sad for the first time will be without Dejan Majstorovic or Marko Savic, who have both joined Ub this winter following the breakup of the famed team. But no can never count out a squad led by number one player in the world, ‘Mr. Bullutproof’, Dusan Bulut.
This will also be the renewed chance for the North American teams to get back into the World Tour winner’s circle. New York Harlem, led by Disco Domo Jones, are back following a disappointing 2020 season, while Princeton (one WT event) and Edmonton (no 2020 World Tour events) return to action, in earnest.
This will be the third consecutive year that the World Tour will be played in Doha. This has become an annual trophy stop for Riga, who defeated Liman in back-to-back years in the final. It was a superhero effort in 2020 as Lasmanis hit one of the most memorable Tissot Buzzer Beaters in recent memory.
Last year, despite a difficult situation for players and organisers, Qatar was able to host a historic event in the midst of the pandemic. While the world still works to recover, Doha continues to provide an excellent venue for FIBA 3x3.
