Windy conditions, dust and poor visibility are expected in the country today, the weather forecast shows. This comes a day after Doha and other parts of the country experienced dusty conditions, strong winds and a spike in temperature on Friday. In its forecast for today, the Qatar Met department has said strong winds are expected along with poor visibility during the daytime. It has issued a warning for similar conditions, along with high seas, in offshore areas, too.
The detailed forecast says moderate temperature is expected during the daytime along with some clouds and dusty conditions at times, while it will be relatively cold by night. Offshore, scattered clouds and dust are likely at first, followed by slightly dusty conditions later. The wind speed may go up to 32 knots inshore and 38 knots offshore today, with visibility dropping to 2km or less in some places at times and the sea level rising to 14ft.
The temperature is expected to range from 20-28C today. As forecast by the Met department recently, the country saw a noticeable rise in temperature yesterday, reaching a high of 40C in places like Mukaynis, Abu Samra, Karana and Turayna, 39C in Sheehaniya, Qatar University area, Mesaimeer, Jumayliyah and Ghuwairiyah, 37C in Ruwais and 36C in Doha (airport area), Mesaieed and Shehaimiya.
Strong southwesterly winds blew around the country, accompanied by dusty weather not suitable for outdoor and marine activities, according to the Met department. Visibility also dropped at a number of places due to the prevailing conditions. Late last night, the Met department tweeted that the wind direction had turned northwesterly and strong winds were reported from the northern areas. Also, a 'dust mass' had reached the country and started affecting the northern parts, and was expected to gradually affect most regions.
Besides the winds turning northwesterly from southwesterly, a change in temperature is also expected today, dropping sharply from yesterday's levels. A maximum temperature of 28C is expected today in Doha, Wakra and Mesaieed, 27C in Al Khor, 26C in Abu Samra, 25C in Dukhan and 24C in Ruwais. The minimum, on the other hand, will be 18C in Dukhan, 19C in Al Khor, 20C in Doha, Wakra and Mesaieed, and 21C in Abu Samra and Ruwais.
The public has been advised to take health and safety precautions in the dusty weather.
