Qatar Charity (QC) marked International Women's Day to "celebrate the tremendous efforts of women to fight the coronavirus in and outside Qatar".
This year, International Women's Day is being celebrated under the theme 'Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world'.
Women at QC, both employees and volunteers, have demonstrated their abilities during the current global health crisis, contributing to delivering effective and efficient assistance to fight the coronavirus, according to a press statement.
A year ago, Qatar Charity launched an initiative under the hashtag of #VolunteerForQatar to limit the spread of the coronavirus. A good number of female Qatari and expatriate volunteers took part in the initiative to contribute to arranging aid, kits and preventive items that were distributed to the workers across the country.
The female volunteers also contributed to distributing many items, including multilingual awareness leaflets and educational materials, to the workers to raise awareness among them about the importance of health and personal hygiene.
Besides, they took part in the distribution of food items.
Fatima Jumah AlMohannadi, head of Initiatives and Volunteering at QC, praised the role played by the Qatari and expatriate women in fighting Covid-19, considering the step an incentive to encourage women to get involved in voluntary and humanitarian work.
Female employees working in different departments of Qatar Charity, as well as at its offices outside Qatar, took part in the campaigns aimed at preventing the coronavirus.
Shaikha Mohamed AlSubaey, a content specialist in the Marketing Department of QC, said she provided content necessary for the awareness campaigns launched by Qatar Charity to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
Female mediapersons and social media influencers have contributed significantly to raising awareness, encouraging people to get involved in volunteering and giving to limit the negative effects of the pandemic.
Nadine al-Bitar, a mediaperson and civil society activist, said she participated in many awareness-raising initiatives launched by Qatar Charity to motivate people to adhere to social distancing and wearing masks.
She also participated in the distribution of winter items for workers and food packages among expatriate families with low income who were affected by Covid-19.
The female employees of QC supervised 'Noon', a platform to remotely teach, train and empower. Within the framework of the ‘Noon’ platform, Qatar Charity organised many educational programmes and training workshops such the Holy Qur'an leaning course, ‘Al-Qaeda Al-Nourania’ course and ‘Tamkeen’ programme, benefiting hundreds of girls and children.
