The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) signed on Sunday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Diplomatic Institute (DI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed at co-operation in organising joint cultural events, scientific research, diplomatic studies, and the exchange of experts and researchers to spread public awareness on various cultural issues.
The agreement was signed by Director General of the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) Prof Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, and HE the Director of the Diplomatic Institute (DI) ambassador Dr Abdulaziz bin Mohamed al-Horr.
The Director-General of Katara praised the partnership which, he said, would provide a lot for diplomats, researchers and students.
He noted that the signing of the agreement came at a time when Katara holds the presidency of the Global Public Diplomacy Network (GPDNet), and within the successive achievements of the institution in this regard, whether through its success in attracting many countries from different continents of the world as new members in the network or by adopting a distinct strategy in the electronic aspect by launching an electronic portal that has become a fundamental factor for cultural communication between member states and provides them with many common cultural services under what is known as public diplomacy.
Prof al-Sulaiti expressed his hope that the agreement would contribute to enabling knowledge exchange and promoting programs, events, and activities in public diplomacy at the regional and international levels, which would highlight the cultural and civilizational aspect of Qatar, whose diplomacy records bright fingerprints and remarkable achievements at the regional and international levels.
For his part, Dr al-Horr expressed his hope that the agreement would constitute a general umbrella for the consolidation and closer co-operation between Katara and the Diplomatic Institute, pointing out that the joint project will be the start of a wide range of cultural events and activities, whether through the exchange of experiences and training or organising events and holding conferences, exhibitions, workshops, and other programs and activities that embody the common vision of the two parties.
He also expressed his hope that the agreement will yield shortly the launch of an ongoing programme of cultural activities that will serve the public interested in the issue of public diplomacy, whether inside or outside Qatar.
Qatar, represented by Katara, took over the presidency of the GPDNet in May 2019, as the first Arab country to head this global organisation since its founding in 2014.
Qatar succeeded in attracting 13 new countries representing various continents of the world as new members in the network, as Katara seeks to expand partnerships between member states of the network with the aim of enriching cultural diversity, enhancing the role of culture in communication between civilizations, understanding, and dialogue between peoples and societies.
This will contribute to creating opportunities for development and progress in line with the requirements of the times, as the network aims to enable the exchange of knowledge in theoretical and practical fields, and the establishment of bilateral or multilateral projects.
