The Shura Council held its weekly meeting, via video conference on Monday, under the chairmanship of HE the Speaker Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud, at the Council's headquarters. During its session, the Council discussed the report of the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee on a draft law on endowment (Waqf) that includes nine chapters and 58 articles and involves provisions related to the establishment of the endowment, its distribution and conditions, the civil endowment and the supervision of the endowment, its maintenance, architecture and investment.
The draft law comes to replace Law No.(8) of 1996 regarding endowment, in the framework of updating legislations to keep pace with developments in this regard. After an extensive discussion on the committee's report, the Council decided to approve the aforementioned draft law and to refer its recommendations thereon to the esteemed government.
The Information and Cultural Affairs Committee of the Shura Council held a meeting, chaired by its Rapporteur HE Saqr bin Fahd al-Muraikhi. During the meeting, the committee studied the conditions of Qatar University (QU) in light of the QU's strategy and future programmes presented by the QU president before the Shura Council in its session on January 25, and decided to complete study at its next meeting.
