A 30-day joint campaign to remove abandoned vehicles within Doha municipality was launched Sunday. The exercise is being carried out by the committee to remove abandoned vehicles, the mechanical equipment department, and the general cleanliness department in co-operation with Doha Municipality as part of enforcing law no 18 for 2017 on Public Hygiene.

Doha Municipality's General Control Section head Hamad Sultan al-Shahwani took part in the launch of the campaign along with Lt Mohamed Jassim al-Tamimi from the Internal Security Forces (Lekhwiya) and a number of personnel from Lekhwiya, the Traffic Department and municipality employees.
Al-Shahwani pointed out that this campaign is longer than the usual duration for such initiatives due to the high population density in Doha and its significance as the capital city of the country.

"Around 250 abandoned vehicles have been spotted at various areas of Doha and work is going on to remove them in co-operation with the entities concerned," he explained.
The plan for this year with regard to abandoned vehicles is carry out two additional campaigns in each municipality besides the scheduled regular annual plan.
"Around 2,000 vehicles were removed from the different municipalities across Qatar since the start of January this year," he added.

The campaign  Sunrday started in the New Doha Area (Doha Al Jadeeda) due to the large number of abandoned vehicles spotted. The exercise will cover 16 different other locations across Doha.
Following a recent public awareness campaign, a considerable number of people removed their vehicles which were abandoned in public spaces.
Lt al-Tamimi explained that this campaign is to follow the method of a similar campaign recently concluded at Al Sheehaniya Municipality. He also called on the public to co-operate with the entities concerned in this regard.
